Therapeutic Services/Patient Care Technician

Program Description
The program spans a regular school calendar year, about 10 months. It is divided into two semesters. Classes begin in August and continue through June. Theory and clinical experiences are correlated to enable the student to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to meet program goals. Applications will be taken anytime. Students must have Diploma or GED.

Clinical Rotations
Clinical rotations occur at a variety of local agencies. These agencies include: ARH HOSPITALS, Williamson Memorial Hospital, Trinity Healthcare and The Good Shepard long term care facilities, and others.

Board Certification
The Mingo Extended Learning Center is accredited by the West Virginia OFLAC and National ASTP. This program is also approved by the West Virginia Department of Education and the Mingo County Board of Education.

Uniforms
Students will wear uniforms on clinical rotations.

School Hours
Classes are arranged on a daily basis, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Clinical hours are from 7:00a.m. to 2:00p.m., but may rotate to evenings, nights or weekends as need dictates.

Faculty
All faculty members are Registered Professional Nurses licensed to practice, without practice restrictions, in the state of West Virginia. Faculty members have diverse backgrounds and experiences which lends richness to the curriculum.

Financial aid is available through the Pell Grant, WIA, Veterans, Worker’s Compensation, Rehabilitation, and Single Parent. Contact “Works for West Virginia Career Center” for WIA eligibility. Mingo Extended Learning Center does not participate in student loans. A payment plan is available to private-pay students.

The Therapeutic Services/Patient Care Technician prepares students for business and industry jobs with several health science diversified credentials and licenses these include Certified Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, Electrocardiogram Technician, and Patent Care Technician.

What will I do if I am accepted to the Therapeutic Service Program?
After receiving the admission letter of acceptance, you will be advised to complete a letter of intent form and submit a non-refundable deposit of $300. This deposit confirms that you want your space held and that you do intend to attend the class. The $300 deposit is due on the day of orientation. This deposit is not provided by financial aid. Other requirements of the accepted students include a physical, immunizations, drug screen, and a police background check. The costs for these requirements are not covered by the Pell Grant and must be assumed by the applicant. A very strict timeline for all physical requirements is required for admission. Mingo does not participate in the student loan program. Mingo has a monthly payment plan.

What do I do if I have other college credits in nursing?
We will only need a copy of your college transcript when you are accepted into the program. College credit will be reviewed by the nursing department. Credit is given upon the discretion of the department.
